Tutorial: Bright Yellow Contoured Eyes with Red Lips

Posted By Andrea Marisa ~ May 19, 2011 10:14PM

Hey Everyone,

Today's tutorial was using some bright yellow...  A color I seldom use (or wear for that matter).  It is looking to summery outside so I was inspired you could say.  I recently picked up a new MAC lipstick in MAC Red and I figured that it would go perfect for this look.  I wanted to show a countoured eye with neutral colors and just have one pop of a bright color.

I am still not comfortable being in front of a camera... so I may look bit ditsy... I'm hoping that I will get more comfortable as I do more and more videos.  I wanted to try my hand a doing voice-overs so that I can also do tutorials in other languages.  Even doing it that way I was still shaking and my mind went blank a few times... may I need to write down a script before I start the voice-over... just please, bear with me...  Toodles...

REVIEW: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast

Posted By Andrea Marisa ~ May 16, 2011 10:32PM

Contents/Size: 40ml*** also available in 15ml

Price: ~7€ or ~$15 USD (pricing can vary depending on where you live)

Where Available: Parapharmacies or online stores (GOOGLE search)  ***Yet to be made available on La Roche-Posay's US Online store***

Ingredients:

What They Say:

Pros: Anti-bacterial

No Perfume

No Parabens

Tube with pointed end to keep product hygienic and control amount dispensed better than pumps

Can be used on the lips and wounds

Cons: Contains silicones (although it does feel light)

Hard to get a hold of unless you live in France or try online

In My Opinion:

Beautiful on dry and normal skin.  There has NO oil control for the oily parts of your skin;  however, although it has Silicones in it, the concistency is not as thick as, let's say Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Original or Cover FX Clear Prep FX.  I have combo/oily skin and neither of those were good for me.  The silicones in primers smooth out your skin by sitting on top of your skin so they fill in lines, depression scars, and pores.  For my oily skin I have yet to find a HG primer that does everything that I need out of a primer.  The silicones in most primers sit on top of your skin creating a barrier and makes it so that your foundation grabs a hold of that instead of your skin.

For me and my skin, the silicones impede anything from absorbing the oils in my skin.  They build up underneath the primer itself.  They don't mix.  Eventually, this causes the primer to start to slide... and guess what is attached to the primer?? That's right, your foundation that you so lovingly applied earlier that day.

I find that it has a rather light consistency compared to traditional primers... almost creamy.  No primer I have tried has been able to...

1.  Fill in my crater-sized pores that plague my nose (especially the sides of my nostrils and the top of the tip) and the inner parts of my cheeks

2.  Control my oil production

3.  Long lasting base for foundation

4.  Even out the skin textures (in particular depression scars from teenage acne)

I find this to be a lightweight primer that most skins agree with because it is light HOWEVER, if you are sensitive or allergic to silicones, this wouldn't be for you.  To control my oil, I apply Milk of Magnesia to my oily areas and allow to dry while I do my eye makeup.  Depending on whether I feel that my skin will be okay with just one application of MOM, I will then do another light layer (this one will dry quicker) and then I follow by applying the Cicaplast with a sponge/fingers all over including the lips.   Allow Cicaplast to dry and follow with your foundation or powder of choice.

I would recommend this as a primer because it is designed/geared towards skin care and not makeup.  The fact that it acts like a foundation primer is a Bonus.  Remember, skin care should be your first goal.  It wasn't even in my top ten goals growing up and now I am paying the price.  If your skin looks bad, then your foundation is not going to look much better.  Foundations are not magic... they don't cover everything.

Comes out nearly clear When lightly spread out (I just swiped my finger across it)

NOTE:  I know this review seems to be all over the place.  I am still trying to find the best review template for me to use that covers everything.  If you have any comments on how you like to see a review set up or what you want included in one, please let me know in the comments below.

MAC's Matte Mixing Medium & 1ST Attempt at Lip Color

Posted By Andrea Marisa ~ May 5, 2011 12:54AM

It is late at night and I just decided to try my first attempt at using MAC's Matte Mixing Medium to mix my own lip color. Recently I've been on the hunt for THE perfect red lipstick for my NC30-NC35 skin tone. In the following pictures, my face looks red because I have no foundation on but the rest of my body (as you will see) has a very yellow undertone to it.

What I used:
Trucco Ruby Slipper eyeshadow
MAC Matte Mixing Medium
Metal Spatula
Mixing Palette
Lip Brush

Using the metal spatula I scraped some of the eyeshadow into one of the wells of my mixing palette. I cleaned off the spatula and then scooped out some of the mixing medium. Mixed the two really well until it is a smooth consistency and you are happy with the color.

This is my late night result ( 1 am )...

What do you think?? I have Ruby Slippers for Lips now... I am really liking this color too...

What should the color of my next lip color attempt??? Any suggestions?

TUTORIAL: Easy Purple Smokey Eyes

Posted By Andrea Marisa ~ Apr 19, 2011 12:10AM

This is just a simple classic eye look that I filmed today...

Products used/shown:
UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion)
Bare Minerals 1990's
Coastal Scents Touched
MAC Blanc Type
CS True Black gel liner
Lancome Hypnose
Lancome L'Extreme

The typical smokey eye is black and rounded... I made mine as rounded as I could while taking into consideration the normal shape of my eyes... I also opted to forego a black base and use UDPP as a primer, 1990's as the main color, Touched to blend out the dark purple, and blanc type to blend out the outer edges and clean up the shape.

I used black gel liner to intensify the lash line and then smudged out the liner with the same brush with the 1990's on it so that I would get a dark purple gradient nearer the lash line.

You can add faux cils to this look since it is not so dark that you won't be able to see them (let's say if you had a black smokey eye, it is harder to see the black falsies... duh). I also normally don't wear faux cils because I am an eyeglass wearer and if I wear falsies, they end up touching the glasses, which force me to put the glasses down further down my nose, which then I can't see and then I can walk into a pole... YUP, walking into poles and such is good for a short laugh but it is so not attractive. So, to add drama to my natural lashes, I use Hypnose followed by L'Extreme, both by Lancome.

Hope you enjoy it.... Don't forget to comment...
